I went on vacation a month ago. Vacations are wonderful. I had the best weather, unseasonable warm everywhere I went. I got to do some great walking and and spent some great time with my daughter. We scrap booked her roller derby bouts from the last 2 years. http://www.centralcoastrollerderby.com/ It was such great fun. And all those events that I did not get to attend in person, I got to relive with her telling me the highlights of each. It was fun.
Then I went on to meet my Mom at the Pepperdine Lectureships. http://www.pepperdine.edu/biblelectures/ It is so awesome to share that each year with her. She had some health issues this time but it did not detract one bit from the joy of worship and the wonderful visiting we got to do each day with people we love. Pepperdine is my little annual glimpse of heaven. Because heaven is going to be that beautiful and we will be with people we love and the worship will be outstanding and it will never end!
Each morning I got up and hiked straight up the canyons. I found a little garden, Pepperdine's tribute to 9-11 called the Heroes Garden, http://911memorials.org/usa/archives/2005/03/28/pepperdine-heroes-garden-on-bluff-800-feet-above-pacific-in-malibu/ It was a very beautiful place and while Mom and I got to take a bus up to see it one day when other folks were there, it was especially serene and isolated at 6 am. Sitting on the benches one is able to look straight out to the ocean, like the little tile patio ends where the ocean begins. It was a great place to start my day having a conversation with my Father.
Later we flew to Arizona and I got to spend the last few days of my vacation with my parents. Dad and I walked.. It is just great to have parents still kicking it at 75 and 76. May I be so healthy!
Vacations and compacting are a bit at odds with each other. On vacation we have the opportunity to make a difference for people and so I did. Rachael was living very frugally and I hope that my presence there helped her be a little better off for awhile. The economy is tough on a lot of industries. Especially the real estate industry where she makes her living.
So I will be more faithrul blogging. The garden is planted and I have been reading some great books. God is good! DKU
