Radical Hospitality

Hospitality.... Kathy H is the most obvious example of someone who routinely reaches out to strangers and ministers to them. Having been the recipient of her gentle presence, I can tell you that she is so experienced in touching people. If you have never had an opportunity to work alongside her... it is worth the time. That being said, as we spoke on Sunday I was really reaching for how to practice this radical hospitality and two things came to mind..

1) Our culture has forgotten how to practice any hospitality let alone radical hospitality. We live in neighborhoods where we do not know our neighbors, we don't even know the store clerks that serve us each week. So first we need to start practicing hospitality on each other and folks we are comfortable with.

2) Secondly God puts people in front of us if we look. And often those folks become our friends but they start out as ministry opportunities. That is how He works. So perhaps we don't take in strangers but we do touch folks we meet and work with them all the while showing them an "uncommon love". We just have to recognize Jesus in front of us and we will know what to do...
