Thankfulness Journal

A friend made me a book. She hand made the paper cover (something I have always wanted to do), then sewed the binding with beads and shells and a book mark. The inside paper is the normal kind. She said something about it being a Gratitude Journal and I loved that idea. So I have been revisiting my 100 things to be thankful for from last November http://dkudribbles.blogspot.com/2007/11/life-of-gratitude.html and dreaming up some new ones. Since a book is different from a blog, there is an opportunity to be visual in the writings. I happen to be reading a book about the house churches in China. The Christians endure much in the way of suffering and persecution. The Chinese use visual pictures to explain things, which is a great idea that I am attempting to incorporate.

What great fun to write a book whose purpose is to express my own gratitude… for the people and things I am thankful for. Gratitude is something that needs to be practiced because in our culture we easily slip into the pattern of making ourselves the center of the universe. God is the center and His creation is there. I always feel that as I look around this world from the infinite depth of the sky to the millions of varieties of trees … from the desert to the jungles, both teeming with vegetation and life if you look, from the seashores to the mountains and everything between, that we see but a glimpse of who our Father is. He is the God and creator of all that blesses, nurtures us in an infinite way.

So my favorite word.. hokey. My Gratitude Journal is hokey. But it reflects me and the things that bless me, the people I am thankful for. Those blessings I have received are too massive to name. But there is joy in trying. DKU
