This week a great article was released in Wineskins Magazine. The article only seems to be about Domestic Violence. Please read it. It is not about women and it is not about abusers and it is not about fixing societal problems. It is about us and how closely we know our sisters and friends. It is about how bold we are in getting to know people beyond what they show. It is about our own boundaries and our own desire to keep people from knowing who we are.

Read it.

This is a great article not because she is sitting in our church, but that she has sat in our church many times over. (There were many years where she could have been me). And while we all would have different reactions to knowing that an abuser sits in our midst, and hopefully we would be courageous enough to be able to touch and support and hold…, the real message is that there are folks who come in our midst and remain invisible. They have struggles and terrors that never leave their lips. That silence and shame she talks about is them honoring our comfort zones and not involving us in the stickiness of what the world has done to them. I am not convicting my own church in anyway.. perhaps myself. But we have to learn how to touch people in more meaningful ways than, "it is nice to have you visit us". Just didn’t want you to miss a great article. Thank you for reading it. DKU
